Marilyn Collins Artist’s Statement

I explore the qualities of water, and the ways in which it supports and is distorted by human activity, using figurative sculpture, film, sound and performance.

The body as a vehicle of transformation

Words voice stream of consciousness predicaments that cross over from the human to the non-human sphere.

I have made water features, floating sculptures, presented a conference paper on urban watercourse regeneration at Sustainable Innovation, and am currently making films about London’s hidden rivers, looking for songs in the sounds of the rivers.

The wildness of our genome, the plight of domesticated species – the slaves that enable what we call civilization.

Giving a voice and visual signifier, visibility, to the vast kingdoms of ‘other’ that have been created as human needs narrow the territory of the ‘others’.
