Art Description

Improvisation is a release of everything and a return to the primitive sense of the now. The question of what
expression connects us to our ancestors came from my research of indigenous peoples, and my roots, living in
an area with the memories of our ancestors living on an island across the sea and those of the sea people
remaining inland, are related to the memories of disasters such as tsunamis, earthquakes and floods, migration
and their creation as a requiem. I travel to various places and experience what I couldn’t inherit and revive my
own physicality. I encounter materials that dwell on fragments of the memory of the land and by connecting them
together, I create forms that evoke the memory of the land. I improvise dance as ritual with my body that emerge
from that act of creation. By inheriting the culture of the land and reviving the rich spirituality and physicality that
existed before life and art were separated, the work evokes the culture of life and beauty together. The expression
of art, is the moment when earth telling beyond my existence.
